WEST
-is about three weeks away!
-We still need more people for lunch to talk to the students—tell your
friends to email Jamie with their names and majors OR get their names yourself
and give them to Jamie.
-Could look at and send something to the list of people who did lunch at WEST
last year.
-Prof info sheets were passed out, need to be back ASAP (next Monday at the
latest)
-Kevin can't be the photographer this year (schedule conflict)—other options:
Chris Woodruff (Bassman will talk to him), Lily also has a friend and will talk
to them if Chris can't do it, or possibly a student from Prof Beckman's digital
photography class?
-Sarah Adelman will take care of WEST thank-yous: gift certificates to Barnes
and Noble, $50 for speaker and $25 for profs, Caludia, and Dean Noda (last two
years: gift certificates to Full of Life bakery for profs and Barnes and Noble
for speaker; year before that: picture frame with picture; should come back
to Full of Life certificates eventually)
-An email from Calvin Gavin interested in WEST, should send him info or the
website.
-31 people registered so far! Physics, Bio, and Chem are popular.
-No one has contacted Sierra Vista: should call them, but tell them that we'd
prefer they not leave early if they attend this year.
Fun Night
-We will go bowling this Friday afternoon, got names of people who want to go.
-Will send an email out to swe-l
Prof Dinners
-S. Harris says this Thurs is okay, but next Thurs is better—switched
date to next Thursday and got names
-Policy: People attending a meeting who want to sign up for an event (like a
prof dinner) get precedence over people who aren't at the meeting.
-Dinner with Dean Goroff is back on. Monday 2-27 is okay for him, but during
an important meeting. Will do it Thursday March 2, got names (including Bassman
and Lape)—no limit on number of people for this outing.
Teach for America
-Sara al-Beaini wanted to put in a word for us to consider apply to Teach for
America for after graduation. Check them out on their website etc.
-Their mission ties in with what SWE's doing (encouraging math and science by
having good teachers at low-income public schools).
-Very competitive program, apply as a senior.
-Can apply for a fellowship to grad school after doing the program.
Other
-All-day shadowing trip to Raytheon will be February 24, got names and will
send an email out to swe-l.
-We had sugar cookies at with icing and sprinkler at the meeting for Valentine's
Day!
